2009 RETHiNK Grant recipients

Mind and Body Consultants is delighted to have the opportunity to support each of the following initiatives with a Like Minds Like Mine RETHiNK Grant. Congratulations to all of our RETHiNK Grant recipients for 2009.

Chris Brain, 2009 Billy T Award Nominee, is in a “Better Place” after years of living on the fringes. “A Better Place”, sponsored by a RETHiNK Grant, follows Chris’s darkly comic jouney through gambling, drinking, religion, drugs and even going to the gym in order to be normal. What he came to realise was that there is no such thing as normal. Depression didn’t colour his view on life, it magnified Chris’s unique and hilarious take on the human condition. Toi Ora Live Art Trust, a creative arts centre for people with experience of mental distress, is using a RETHiNK Grant to develop and design Ponderings 2, the second collection of poetry, prose, short stories and art work from Toi Ora’s writing and visual arts classes. Te Ata, a consumer support centre, has been awarded a RETHiNK Grant for the production, printing and launch of the 2010 Breaking Barriers calendar and greeting cards. This project showcases Te Ata members’ art work. The art work reflects, and is symbolic of, the value of their experiences, and the learning that mental distress can provide. It aims to show how positive, inclusive and non-judgemental attitudes can make a difference in people’s lives.

Please help to bring this very important issue into the awareness of our community by purchasing a calendar from Te-Ata for $15 so that they may continue to support people’s Mental Health through artistic endeavour.

ARTiculate is a studio arts therapy programme for young people. Each programme culminates in an exhibition for community, family and friends. It is this exhibition that a RETHiNK Grant is supporting. For more information go to – www.marco.org.nz
